The SisKnife features an exceptionally grippy rubber handle that is long enough (the width of an adult male's palm plus finger width) to provide a solid grip for working tasks. The SisKnife showcases Finnish knife craftsmanship at its finest. Its design incorporates everything essential without unnecessary additions.
The SisKnife is a survival knife in the truest sense of the word. It is an unwavering assistant for adventurers, a support and safety tool for hunters, and a reliable working tool for hikers. It is a knife that will never leave its user in trouble. A knife that performs regardless of the season or conditions. The SisKnife is available in a longer M95 model (150mm blade) and a shorter M07 model (125mm blade). Scabbards are available in composite, leather, and Kydex.
The SisKnife is the choice of many armies and also serves as the course knife for the RUK (Finnish Reserve Officers' School).
On models and coatings:
When comparing Teflon and Cerakote, Teflon has food safety certification and an extremely low friction coefficient, so dirt does not stick easily, making it easy to keep clean. For example, this is often the preferred coating for hunters.
Cerakote withstands wear and prevents rust as effectively as Teflon, but the friction is slightly higher. Cerakote offers many color options and the colors are uniform.
The story of the SisKnife:
"Military camp in Southern Lebanon. Christmas Eve, 1979
While serving as a military observer in Lebanon, J-P Peltonen comes across an American military knife. The knife’s weight, usability, and balance are in a league of their own, making a deep impression on Peltonen. He is left with a lingering thought of creating a knife with similar characteristics but suited for Nordic conditions.
Fiskars Knife Days, 1995
Peltonen met a lieutenant colonel from Sodankylä, who lamented the lack of a knife suitable for his team in all of Finland. Due to his background, Peltonen immediately understands what the lieutenant colonel is talking about: soldiers need a durable knife that is easy to attach to their gear, one that can be drawn with a single hand movement. A knife that aids in field dining and night campfires, especially on cold nights when a stove needs to be lit quickly.
This is the type of knife Peltonen has been designing since his time as a military observer. Now he would create such a knife.
A journey from around the world to Finland and from Finland to the world
Thus began the story of the SisKnife and its long journey from the plains of the Middle East to Finnish forests.
In the Fiskars factory, decisive development work commenced, leading to the creation of the very first SisKnife.
Today, the SisKnife is a professional tool equipped with a NATO code, enjoyed by users across national borders, fulfilling even the stringent requirements of special forces. The knife also meets the needs of civilian adventurers, hunters, and anglers—all who venture into nature. It is a knife whose features are designed to perform in Finnish, often quite austere wilderness.
We owe all of this to J-P Peltonen, a founding member of the Finnish Knife Society—a man who knows, due to his background, that a functional knife is not a luxury in extreme conditions, but a necessity.";
Made in Finland. Company established in 2002. Activities extend further back in time.
