Outdoor Companion Kuksa, Birch Moose.
Handcrafted in Muurame, Central Finland from precious birch and strong moose antler. The ecological kuksa has such an excellent feel that you won't want to let it go. The kuksa is adorned with a handcrafted image of a moose.
Creating a 'bare' kuksa takes approximately 2 hours of handwork per kuksa. Additionally, drawing the design on the patterned kuksa takes about 2 more hours.
The kuksa is an ecological option. It is made from wood, a renewable material that does not require detergent or hot water for cleaning. It does not conduct heat, meaning coffee stays hot longer without burning your mouth as easily.
An excellent gift that every outdoor companion will surely cherish! A daily-use item that lasts well when cared for.
Material: Birch and moose antler
Volume: approx. 2dl +
Weight: approx. 230g
Note that each handcrafted kuksa is naturally unique. When ordering from the online store, each shape or grain of the wood is not 100% the same, but the production will be very close to the model. You will receive a unique gift or a high-quality product made from Finnish craftsmanship each time.
Kuksa Care Instructions:
1. Fill the kuksa with hot coffee water, not boiling. Let it sit for two minutes and then pour out.
Boiling in saltwater removes the stresses from the wood, which is why the kuksa has a salty taste. The worst salt from the kuksa dissolves in hot water.
2. Allow the kuksa to dry for a couple of hours, preferably until the next day. The wood grains open up when it gets moist and then dries.
3. Brew strong filtered coffee. Do not drink directly from the kuksa; instead, take a tablespoon of wet warm coffee grounds from the filter's bottom and place it in the kuksa. Rub the grounds against the kuksa's walls with your thumb until they are dry (3-5 min). This will soon give the kuksa a water-repellent grease coating, preventing it from soaking and potentially cracking as it dries. Likewise, all excessive flavors remain under the grease coat.
Drink from the kuksa, but do not wash it, as durability and hygiene rely on the kuksa not being washed. The kuksa absorbs any residual moisture immediately after drinking, and on the dry, salty wood surface, germs cannot thrive. However, if you eat or drink something thicker from the kuksa, it is good to rinse it with warm water. If a thicker film forms, scrape it off with a knife.
In the beginning, use it frequently so that a grease coating forms on its surface. Then it will be ready for long outdoor trips and will start to withstand alcohol, tasting of what you drink, not what was last drunk from it.
(You can quickly change the kuksa's flavor with about a capful of your favorite liquor: Pour a capful into the kuksa and swish for a while. The liquor absorbs into the kuksa, and a few cups of coffee will taste slightly of liquor but not so much of salt and wood. A larger amount of liquor will be permeated through the wood's grains, and if the kuksa gets soaked, it may crack as it dries. This is not necessary.)
